a gallagher tale

This is Halloween?

This was our first Halloween in a new house. The neighborhood has a dozen houses or so, two with children, so I expected at least a few trick-or-treaters. Come dark, however, only one other house in the neighborhood had their light on. We didn't get a single kid. What a bummer!

It's kind of sad to me that people don't turn their light on and pass out candy on Halloween. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. You spend $5 on a bag of candy, it doesn't take up that much time, why not do it? I realize Halloween started out as a Pagan holiday, but it's not that anymore. To me, it's about doing something REALLY simple and cheap to make a bunch of kids you don't even know happy. How good is that? It's even more about giving than Christmas, because Christmas is just for friends and family. Halloween, you give to complete strangers -- and better yet, kids!

I'm pretty disappointed in my neighbors right now. Maybe they have a good reason. Or maybe they're just cranky stingy old farts.
