a gallagher tale ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bad Pony These days have been some ups & downs. Yesterday morning I had an appointment with the farrier. I was under the impression that Peaches was fine for the farrier. That impression was horribly mistaken. That was the worst workout I have ever had. One and a half hours of trying to get a horse to longe who has never longed and had no idea what I wanted, oh, and also weighs almost a ton. Needless to say, I almost had heat stroke, and today my arms are so sore I don't think they're even functional much. Then, after the very very very patient and nice farrier spent an hour and a half working on Peaches for a measly $25, we moved onto Amauvia. I thought Amauvia would be a BREEZE after that behemoth Peaches. Instead, she flipped out and dragged me halfway across the pasture. I was so mad when she reared up and started to drag me that I just got a better hold on that lead rope and dug my heels in and ended up getting dragged 100 feet before she gave up and calmed down. So I got rope burn on my hand and also it ripped open one of my fingers. Then I was even madder cause I hate getting cut. I hate blood. Kathy & that farrier thought I had some of the stupidest horses ever. And I guess I do. But after crying the whole way home in absolute exhaustion and frustration, I'm left with just determination. Those horses are bad for a reason. Because they CAN be. Because I'm not out there making them behave. I'm not teaching them anything, I'm not giving them any work. They NEED it. So I made a deal with Shane. He will keep Zane every evening for an hour or two so I can go work my horses. Every evening. That will make me happier & healthier and it will make them better horses too. Also happier horses. I just hope Shane will follow through. He gets so caught up working up on the land he might forget to make it home before dark. But soon, as in, in the next few days, we will be putting up fence for our pasture and then the horses can be with us on the land and that will be easier. The power goes in this week, and Shane is laying concrete for our apartment. He is also buying the few poles he can afford. But he got a job! Locally! An adjusting job, too. It's still fee schedule, so it's good money. It won't be a lot of work, two or three days a week at most I expect, but it will be income, and every penny of it will go into lumber etc for our house. And anyway, since we have power and a water tank, we can live in our trailer on the land until we get the apartment built. The actual house will be a long time coming... at least another year probably. : But at least we're starting somewhere. It's easy to get overwhelmed... but the end result will be worth all of it. 10:26 a.m. - Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today is Sunday November 18th - Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007 |
